Meet Gus! He's a 6yr old black and tan dobe looking for his furever home. Gus is calm and easy going, with a bit of timidity. He's good with most dogs except overly dominant, pushy males. He does have some leash aggression that will need to be worked on. Due to his timid nature, we're not going to adopt him out to a family with small children. **We do not discuss individual dogs with applicants until completion of the adoption process. Please submit a completed application: http://dobermanrescueco.org/adopt/forms/. We never consider you applying for a particular dog. The more open you are to gender, color and age, the more likely you are to find a dog with us. We want homes that accept that they are rescuing a dog and are willing to work with the dog to make him a good citizen. We will also schedule a home visit. Once approved to adopt from us, we will contact you about suitable dogs and put you in contact with the foster parents. We get dogs into rescue on a regular basis and they are placed with previously approved adopters who have been waiting for their forever dog. It is best not to focus on any specific dog until you have been approved. We welcome your interest in a dog that may steal your heart but please remember that the dogs posted on our site today will most likely go to homes of applicants that applied weeks ago.**
I rescued Gracie during the summer of 2012. She had trauma to her left back hip that required surgery and a lot of rehab. When I met her at the Doberman Rescue of Colorado she was already recovering in the care of Chuck. Her back leg was atrophied and couldn’t stretch to touch the ground.
After taking her home we began physical therapy stretches and strengthening to get her back on all fours. It only took a couple of months before she was playing tug of war and running with full use of her leg. Now, four years later, you would never know she was ever injured. She has been a loving and loyal family member living a dog’s dream life. She is a huge part of our hearts and can’t thank Chuck and his team enough for letting her into our lives!
